“To make sure you and your guests have a full experience, you (as the hauste) need to style for the senses,” reads a guide for a Sunday night salmon dinner it also recommends a light color palette, a “wildflower chic” vibe with optional flower-studded ice cubes, and scattering tea lights across the table. There’s a sense of thoughtful curation in Hauste’s guides. Unlike the typical dinner party move of pulling recipes from cookbooks and then figuring out which tasks can be done simultaneously, “our are all intertwined, so you’re not wasting time,” says Raymond. Tasks are broken down into the days and minutes leading up to the meal, even including small touches like lighting a candle in the bathroom and putting on music from a provided Spotify code right before guests arrive. Either way, it offers a shopping list, menu, recipes, playlist, design inspiration, checklists, and in some cases, templates for name cards or invites. Hauste’s guides go for $16 or $26 depending on the gathering pasta night for two requires less guidance and effort than Thanksgiving. They started Hauste (pronounced like “host”), a company that primarily produces and sells “ Hauste Its,” downloadable dinner party guides. Ages 22 and 30, respectively, Raymond and Flores found themselves well-positioned they could cater to both younger people making the shift from college partying to having their own apartments, as well as older, experienced hosts looking for ways to streamline. Though their family hosted every weekend growing up, “we were realizing as we got older that people weren’t hosting as much as our family was,” says Flores. While getting meal delivery boxes from HelloFresh last year, sisters Hanna Ray Flores and Lea Raymond had an idea: “What if we had that for dinner parties?” Flores says. But where Martha Stewart and Ina Garten might have instructed previous generations, a growing niche of guides, services, and influencers is emerging to demystify hosting: Welcome to the new dinner party economy. Making all the moving parts work is a skill honed by practice, or for those with money, hired aid. An opportunity not only to feed and to gather but also to present one’s home and cooking, the dinner party is a feat of domesticity, and accordingly, an affair rife with potential stressors. As people return to gathering, there’s a sense for many of having to relearn old conventions, while for those who came of age during the pandemic years, a chance at trying something new. After over two years of caution, dinner parties are back in a big way. Her brand of instructive-meets-aspirational content comes at exactly the right time. She found added motivation during the pandemic to bring the feeling of the restaurant home, and now, with over 64,000 followers, it’s clear that Gelber has found a niche for herself on TikTok as a dinner party influencer. “I wanted to bring that to my friends,” says Gelber, who’s now based in Brooklyn. Speaking truth to that one 2011 Onion headline, Gelber learned to host as a student at Bard College, where the small size limited the nightlife options, and then spent time in London’s vibrant supper club scene. Gelber now uses the platform primarily to share dinner party inspiration and guides, budget tips, and playlist suggestions, but the fashion hasn’t dropped out entirely since she also dreams up outfits for hypothetical dinners around the world (a flouncy dress for Lima a black turtleneck minidress with a tan trench for Paris). But in April, it was a video of one of her monthly dinner parties, showing handwritten menus tied to gingham napkins and a tablescape scattered with eucalyptus leaves, that found unexpected success, drawing over 500,000 views. When Mya Gelber started making videos on TikTok early this year, the 26-year-old went for the known format of the fit check, posing while putting on Carhartts and coats.

I'm not invested enough in the story/lore/fantasy of Azata to finish out this run. I suspect I'll take a brief break then reroll a custom party and start plowing through it again. Ultimately, normal feels more forgiving than it did in Kingmaker (at least for most encounters - some still just plain suck), but this could also be because the companions are so good and loot is so plentiful. I think next time I'll main a mage and try and micromanage more often. It's not unsatisfying, but I also don't much feel like I'm running the show (very similar to PoE in this regard). Between 3 melee, 2 archers, and Nennio, I really don't do much but buff and send everyone in auto-attacking. I've been playing on Normal with dips into Casual when things turn against me. I just gave up and carried around my blue and green tiles for a few days before stashing them. Speaking of overland travel, the 2654 locations and 104235423 colored tiles associated with the mystery puzzle subset of quests is utterly frustrating. It seems like maybe I missed out on some things there related to the buildings (horses, teleport ring, etc.). I did one battle in the Crusade and set it to auto. From the little I've read, all the other ones are pretty solid if not excellent as well. I went with Seelah/Camellia/Woltwhatver/Lann/Nennio and haven't really swapped at all except to do character specific sidequests. It's shocking how good the companions are this time out, especially compared to the mediocre builds of Kingmaker. The reagent spots feel particularly useless. There's got to be a better way to do that. As cool as the setting was, I didn't absolutely love Act 4. If you keep the machine, you will get a special crusade project later, to transform your troops to cyborg.Just got to act 5 on my first playthrough, and I'm a little out of steam. When Sarkoris was in its final, agonizing days, preparing to be consigned to history, the Blackwater clan kept fighting, crafting a new, never-before-seen weapon against the demons. Even in the face of death, a mortal will keep looking for a way to slip through its cold fingers until they draw their last breath. Last month the Daily Star reported that a woman was claiming that a fall from her Wii Fit board turned her into a nymphomaniac (Emma Wall, “ Nintendo Wii Made Me a Nympho!”, Daily Star). Headlines still support this belief that one false step will send a “normal” woman spiraling into an over-sexed state. Self-control and moderation were central to the health of both men and women, but women’s presumably milder sexual appetite meant that any signs of excess might signal that she was dangerously close to the edge of sexual madness.” “In the Victorian period, both doctors and the patients who sought medical help believed that strong sexual desire in a woman was a symptom of disease. Nymphos Are Sickīack to Carol Groneman’s book Nymphomania, A History: Research has shown that only “about 8% of the total population of men and 3% of women are sexually addicted ” ( ). In other words, there isn’t a way to determine how much sexual desire or activity is too much.” Instead, a person whose sex drive is obsessively high is called “hypersexual.” Other words used are “ sexual addiction” and “compulsivity.”Ībnormal is the key word here. According to “the term… is not scientifically meaningful simply because there are no specific criteria that would define a nymphomaniac. The term “nymphomaniac” or “nympho” is no longer recognized in the medical world. Yesterday’s Nymphomaniacs Are Today’s Sex Addicts In contrast, The Encyclopedia of Psychology states that “scientists now recognize that the shape of the skull does not relate to the shape of the brain.” 7. Phrenologists believe that “the faculty concerned with physical love and sexual attraction on the lower back of the head, behind the ears.” The bigger your cerebellum, the bigger the back of your head- meaning you literally have too much sex in the brain. The same book quoted above also states that Phrenologists of the same time period thought “an enlarged cerebellum… indicated inordinate sexual appetite.” A visit to confirms that there are still people who believe in this study of head shapes. It’s All In Her Head Doctor and Woman Holding Dolls at Sex Clinic (Photo by © Wally McNamee/CORBIS/Corbis via Getty Images) Obviously this critic was a man and had never had a pap smear! 8. The book “Nymphomania, A History” describes how Victorian doctors feared that “eating rich food, consuming too much chocolate, dwelling on impure thoughts, reading novels, or performing “secret pollutions”… overstimulated women’s delicate nerve fibers and led to nymphomania.” They were so worried about these delicate nerve fibers that “one critic even feared that the use of the speculum itself might so excite a woman’s passions that it could cause nymphomania” (Carol Groneman, Nymphomania A History). (Painting: Nymphs and Satyr, William-Adolphe Bouguereau, Wikipedia.) 9. Treatments have included “cold baths, bromide sedatives, cauterization and, yes, clitoridectomy” (Peter Green, “ All Sexed Up”, Los Angeles Times). In fact, historically, the female problem of nymphomania has been taken much more seriously than the male counterpart. Why are we all familiar with the term “nympho” and not “satyro”? Is it because a woman who is unable to control her sexual desires is more exciting or more newsworthy than a man with the same problem? More likely, it’s because a willingness to engage in constant sexual activity is considered normal when it comes to men. Both words are inspired by Greek mythology: nymphs are “minor deities represented as beautiful maidens” and satyrs are “woodland creature depicted as having the pointed ears, legs, and short horns of a goat and a fondness for unrestrained revelry.” I guess that’s where the term “horny” comes from? Did you know that the term nymphomania only applies to females? The male counterpart is called satyriasis. Having said that, you might want to give Parallels a try. The guys over at VMware have been in business for years, and they really know their virtualization stuff. Fusion provides more features, and VMware provides better support than the competition. We selected VMware Fusion, because at this time we feel that it’s a more polished application. The two products appear nearly identical, at least at first glance. If you know anything at all about virtualization on the Mac, you may be wondering why we choose VMware Fusion over Parallels, another application that allows you to run Windows on your Mac. Unfortunately, installing Boot Camp is another tutorial entirely. Sure it’s a bummer, but you can still use Apple’s Boot Camp to install Windows and play games. Our graphics look weird and our mouse doesn’t respond. It all sounds great, until you actually try to install and play a game with VMware. Is such a thing possible? VMware’s website states that “VMware Fusion has experimental 3D graphics support allowing you to play select DirectX 9.0 games in Windows XP Service Pack 2 virtual machines.” We know that some will be tempted to use VMware to play Windows-based games. Don’t stop with installing Windows! Gamers Can Forget Virtualization However, VMware has many other powerful uses with which you can experiment. In this tutorial, we’ll simply show you how to install Windows on your Mac. This technique is particularly useful in IT departments, where many servers can be virtually combined onto one single physical computer. (Today’s Mac Pros are so powerful that most individuals have trouble enough utilizing a single Mac Pro’s resources!) Virtualization essentially allows individuals to turn one computer into multiple computers. Today, with powerful computers such as the Mac Pro, the trend has been away from Beowulf clusters and towards virtualization options such as VMware. In the past, when computers were relatively slow, computer hobbyists would use a technique called Beowulf clustering to connect several computers together to create one supercomputer. Virtualization is a popular option for those with high-power computers. This includes making a single physical resource (such as a server, an operating system, an application, or storage device) appear to function as multiple logical resources.” The two operating systems are running in parallel, so you’ll never have to restart your Mac to get from Mac OS X to Windows, or vice versa.Īs Wikipedia states: “Virtualization is a technique for hiding the physical characteristics of computing resources from the way in which other systems, applications, or end users interact with those resources. In fact, you can even switch out of your virtual machine and back into Mac OS X at any time. Once you’ve installed your operating system, you can boot into your virtual machine after you’ve started your Mac.You could also install a Linux-based operating system, for example. Microsoft Windows XP and Vista are just two of many operating systems you can install. VMware Fusion will help you install whichever operating system you’d like to use on your virtual machine. For example, you can see Windows boot up on the virtual machine. This is actually a file that lives on your Mac, but to casual users it appears to be an actual computer running within Mac OS X. After you install VMware Fusion and start the application for the first time, you’ll create what’s called a virtual machine. It resides in your Applications folder and it sits on your Dock, just like Safari and iTunes. You can use it after you’ve booted into Mac OS X. VMware Fusion is a normal application that you install on your Mac.Here are the main points you need to understand VMware: What is Virtualization, and how does it work?īefore we start, we want to tell you a little about how VMware Fusion works its magic. Anyway, if you’d like to do the unthinkable and install one of the other operating systems, then follow along. We’re guessing that they’ll probably want to use some applications that are unavailable for Mac OS X, like… Internet Explorer? Who knows. Why would someone want to go and do something like install Windows on their Mac? Good question. And now, if you have an Intel-based Mac and an application called VMware Fusion, you also have the option of using the world’s second and third and fourth best operating systems! Yes, we’re talking about Microsoft Windows, the operating system that the rest of the world has the misfortune privilege of using. Everyone knows that we get to use Mac OS X Leopard, the world’s most advanced operating system. Heads explode with a well-placed shot, and limbs are blown off with rockets. The mechanics tend to be rather clunky and the gameplay grinding, but as gamers piece together the Apocalypse Now-like story, they rip swarms of enemies apart with tens of thousands of rounds of ammo from a variety of high-caliber automatic weaponry. At first glance, Spec Ops: The Line looks like nothing more than a straight-ahead military shooter. Short answers like FORE and FRAT can be tough to clue in challenging ways, so in Thursday puzzles, they often end up being frustratingly and opaquely difficult, without much of an a-ha moment to reward all your head-banging. For instance, I got horribly stuck in the north section, unable to determine what could be. This would no doubt have introduced some more crossword glue into the fill, but oddly enough, that might have made for a more pleasurable solving experience in places. Perhaps by taking out the black square between FDA and FORE, or GMC and ASP? Would have been great to get more of an open feel to the puzzle, with a couple more pieces of bonus long fill. But I did feel that the grid was choked-off, with so many narrow passageways. Not easy to do when you have to work around crossing pairs of themers. Generally clean gridwork, just some minor CTA, RAHS, RRS type stuff. I would have liked one more pair of themers like this - just three rebus squares felt a bit miserly - but where would you stick another? I suppose Jacob could have made the revealer (MTE)REBUS with another MTE square, but that would have been plain old mean! Glad to learn what it was - southernmost active volcano, that's a cool fact - but boy, was it hard to parse a weird MTEREBUS string when EREBUS sounded so unfamiliar. I knew what MT EREBUS was! Honest! What, you don't believe me? I must insist that I … okay, fine. I've long wondered why we use the term "rebus" to describe "multiple letters jammed into a square" - I'm used to "rebus" describing a picture - but it's just one of those insidery crossword things. Even later in the series, Timmy is informed that due to a shortage of available fairies, he must now share Cosmo and Wanda with his neighbor, Chloe Carmichael, who is essentially his polar opposite. Much later in the series, Timmy got a pet fairy dog named Sparky. Later in the series, Timmy wishes that Cosmo and Wanda would have a baby, whom they named Poof. Earlier episodes of the series tend to revolve around Timmy trying to navigate his everyday life at home, at school and elsewhere in town with his friends, Chester and A.J., and occasionally his parents, while also trying to fix a wish gone awry and ultimately, learning a lesson in the end. However, these wishes usually backfire and cause a series of problems that Timmy must fix. One day, he is granted two fairy godparents, Cosmo and Wanda, who grant his every wish to improve his miserable life.
